AMEC on point for Black Oak Getty
Work begins on 78MW Minnesota project
Energy company Sempra US Gas & Power has selected AMEC Foster Wheeler to build the 78MW Black Oak Getty wind project in Minnesota.
The engineering, procurement and construction contractor has started work on the substation site, geotechnical work and road assessments.
“In the coming weeks, work will begin on roads and wind turbine foundations,” said Sempra communications director Steve Schoof. The project is expected to create about 250 jobs at peak construction.
Northern States Power has completed upgrades to the NSP Black Oak substation and is rebuilding 10 miles of 69kV transmission lines on its transmission system to accommodate the wind farm.
Delivery of 39 Vestas V110 2MW turbines is scheduled to begin in June 2016.
“The Black Oak Getty wind project is expected to be placed into operation in late 2016,” said Schoof.
The output will be sold to the Minnesota Municipal Power Agency under a 20-year contract.
