Police probe Ecotricity mast failure
Two of four guy wires 'cut' at site of 21MW California wind farm in Scotland
Police Scotland has launched a criminal inquiry after a met mast collapsed at the site of Ecotricity’s proposed seven-turbine California wind farm in southwest Scotland.
The lattice tower failed during the 73mph winds of Storm Abigail earlier this month but subsequent inspections by the developer and police showed that two of four guy-wires had been cut.
Anyone with knowledge of the incident has been asked to come forward.
“The site is used by the landowner’s employees and tenants, our staff, as well as livestock. Their safety, and indeed the perpetuators’, was put at risk through this thoughtless act,” said Ecotricity.
The developer is seeking permission for turbines of up to 110 metres at the 21MW California site near Stroans Hill in Dumfries and Galloway.
