UK government offloads Wave Hub
Ownership to transfer from business department to Cornwall Council
The UK government is transferring the ownership of the Wave Hub test centre from the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills to Cornwall Council.
As part of the move, Cornwall Council via the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership has been awarded £15m to develop the Hayle-based facility as part of a new MarineHub Enterprise Zone.
Cornwall and Isles of Scilly LEP chief executive Sandra Rothwell said: “MarineHub is a centrepiece of our ambition to make our region a world leader in the development of marine renewable energy, attracting investment and creating well-paid jobs.
“The package of support includes additional investment, the Enterprise Zone and transfer of ownership of Wave Hub to Cornwall Council to further develop this key asset.”
The 48MW Wave Hub has leased berths to Seatricity, Wello, Simply Blue Energy and Carnegie Wave Power.
