ABB has implemented a network management system for National Grid USA in New York and Massachusetts that will aid the integration of new renewable energy capacity.

The company said the software, which includes an outage management solution, allows National Grid to monitor and control in real-time distribution infrastructure and detect quickly possible outages.

National Grid VP operations John Spink said: “The ABB software solutions we have put in place provide a platform for the future and position us for leadership in meeting the challenges utilities around the world are facing – deeper penetration of renewable energy resources, such as wind and solar, and wider deployment of distributed energy resources while ensuring reliable, safe and affordable electricity supplies.”

ABB power grids division president Claudio Facchin said: “A key element of our next level strategy is leveraging our software portfolio to help utilities improve reliability and ensure safe and clean energy delivery to their customers utilizing the internet of things, services and people.”
