Astute move for Welsh wave
Marine Power Systems engages ASTUTE 2020 for WaveSub
Wave developer Marine Power Systems has engaged Swansea University-based Advanced Sustainable Manufacturing Technologies 2020 (ASTUTE 2020) to model and test critical WaveSub device components.
ASTUTE 2020 will work with Swansea’s Marine Power Systems on computational modelling research to derisk the eventual manufacture of the device’s power take-off float.
Marine Power Systems said the float is designed to be simple to install and maintain, with good survivability and reliability at low cost.
Director Gareth Stockman said: "We are reaching some exciting milestones in the development of our technology, specifically the deployment of a quarter-scale prototype WaveSub in 2016.
“We have full assurance that the research being produced by ASTUTE 2020 will confirm that our design for a power take-off float is fully fit for purpose."
The WaveSub project has been part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government, with MPS receiving a £2m grant last October.
