Fugro set for Bay State sail
Geotechnical work for 1GW wind farm off Massachusetts to start this week
Dong Energy plans to start geotechnical work later this week for the 1GW Bay State wind farm proposed off the Massachusetts coast.
The Fugro Synergy research vessel is expected to ship out 7 October and spend about 15 days exploring the site. The 340-foot vessel will test bottom conditions by taking shallow core samples in 18 specific locations identified by an earlier research expedition.
Gardline Marine Sciences' vessel RV Ocean Researcher completed a geophysical survey mapping seabed conditions during August and September.
Dong expects to spend the next three years collecting data and performing detailed assessments of the 76,000-hectare lease area.
The Danish company secured a lease last year for the area about 15 miles off Martha´s Vineyard to develop Bay State, its first offshore wind project in North America.
