Fugro to conduct Vineyard tour
Contract for geotechnical work on 1GW project off Massachusetts
Vineyard Wind – formerly OffshoreMW – has awarded Fugro a contract to carry out a marine geotechnical site investigation within its wind development lease off the coast of Massachusetts.
Fugro’s 105-metre drilling vessel Fugro Synergy (pictured) will perform the study, which will include seabed cone-penetration tests (CPTs) and exploration boreholes, along with sampling and downhole CPTs.
The company will also carry out laboratory testing and reporting at its offices in Houston and Norfolk following the fieldwork.
Fugro said the investigation will be used to verify geologic ground models that Vineyard Wind is developing based on previous geophysical data collected from the 166,866-acre lease area.
The work is planned to start before the end of October and take two to three weeks.
Vineyard Wind has also employed law firm of Foley Hoag to advise it on the development of its up to 1GW offshore wind farm in the lease area.
The developer was acquired by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners earlier this year, when it was known as OffshoreMW.
The name was changed in recognition of its close proximity and ties to the island of Martha’s Vineyard, Vineyard Wind said.
