FloWave replicates real life
Project with EMEC complete and able to mimic open ocean conditions
The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney and FloWaveOcean Energy Research Facility at the University of Edinburgh have completed a three-year research programme to replicate open ocean conditions at tank scale.
The partners said the 25-metre FloWave test tank is the only facility in the world with the capability to generate “complex waves and fast tidal currents from any point of the compass”.
The tank has been trialled and tested by engineering consultants Quoceant.
Quoceant founding director Richard Yemm said: “The circular tank now operating at FloWave allows much better emulation of real conditions.
“This capability goes a long, long way to closing the gap between laboratory tank testing and the real world.”
