TenneT awards export cables package for 700MW connection
VBMS and NKT Cables have won a contract from TenneT to supply and install two export cables for the 700MW Borssele Alpha grid link in the Dutch North Sea.
The deal covers twin 61km export cables that will connect the 350MW Borssele 1&2 wind farms to the onshore grid, VBMS said.
The contract value for the Dutch marine contractor is about €70m, it said. Works will be carried out between 2018 and 2019.
VBMS and NKT have also been awarded the option to install the other 700MW grid link in the Borssele offshore wind area - Borssele Beta. The latter is subject to financial close, VBMS said.
“Awarding this contract enables us once more to demonstrate the added value of bringing together the specialist expertise and technology of VBMS, NKT Cables and the various disciplines within the Boskalis group,” VBMS managing director Arno van Poppel said.
“We are very proud to contribute to the Dutch government’s goal to produce 14% of total electricity from renewable sources by 2020 and look forward to successfully completing this prestigious project for TenneT.”
