Hendry files tidal lagoons report
Ministers expected to respond to review ahead of March 2017 budget
Charles Hendry has submitted his final review on the role of tidal lagoons to BEIS Secretary Greg Clark.
The former energy minister was appointed in May to assess the strategic case for tidal lagoons and the role they could play in the UK’s energy mix.
Hendry received almost 200 responses to his call for evidence.
“In the course of the review I visited Swansea, Cardiff, Newport, Liverpool, Bristol and Sheffield. This enabled me to speak directly to people who would be involved in, or affected by proposals for tidal lagoons,” said Hendry.
Ministers are expected to respond to the review ahead of the March 2017 budget.
“I am aware of the high expectations created by potential tidal lagoons, particularly in Swansea. Nevertheless, government must have some time to fully consider my recommendations and to decide how to respond," he added.
