Whirlpool starts new spin cycle
Marion facility in Ohio will feature three Goldwind 1.5MW turbines
Electrical appliance manufacturer Whirlpool Corp has broken ground on a three-turbine wind farm at its Marion factory in Ohio.
The project, which features Goldwind 1.5MW turbines, will provide approximately 19% of the facility's total power consumption when complete in early 2017.
The wind farm is being built and financed by One Energy, Whirlpool said.
The Marion plant will be the third Whirlpool facility to use wind energy to power part of its manufacturing operations.
Two wind turbines have been operational since January at the company’s Findlay plant in Ohio, while in October another project started at Whirlpool’s Ottawa factory.
