VBMS lays Rampion wires
Two 16km-long 150kV HVAC cables installed at 400MW project
VBMS has completed the installation of two 16km-long 150kV HVAC cables at Eon’s 400MW Rampion offshore wind farm off the UK’s Sussex coast.
The company said that because of shallow water it had to extend the pre-installed landfall horizontal directional drilling with duct extensions of approximately 480 metres each.
VBMS used Boskalis’ backhoe dredger Manu Pekka to dredge the trenches before installing the duct extensions.
Boskalis also dredged three flotation pits per cable routing to allow cable laying vessel (CLV) Stemat Spirit to reach the location.
“Following the cable pull-in CLV Stemat Spirit jumped from pit to pit during high tides while laying the cable until it reached deeper water where it could safely remain afloat and resume the remaining cable laying operations,” VBMS said.
