Walney hires chopper squad
Dong contracts Babcock MCS for helicopter support on 660MW project
Dong Energy has awarded a contract to Babcock Mission Critical Services to provide helicopter support to the 660MW Walney Extension offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea.
The deal, which runs for five years from 2018, will see Babcock operate a brand new hoist-equipped H135 aircraft, as well as a back-up EC135T3, to transport people and cargo to and from the wind farm.
Babcock said the aircraft will be “custom-configured" to meet Dong’s needs.
It added that Dong has submitted a planning application for the development of an aircraft hangar within Walney airfield, with a decision expected early this year.
The deal will also require approval by the Civil Aviation Authority, Babcock said.
