April date for Nova tidal kit
Third M100 unit to be deployed in Bluemull Sound in Shetland
Nova Innovation is to deploy by April the third tidal turbine of a planned five-unit array in the Bluemull Sound between the northern Shetland islands of Unst and Yell.
The Edinburgh developer has contracted Leask Marine to carry out offshore and subsea operations using its C-Odyssey multicat vessel.
The turbine will be connected to shore by a dedicated subsea cable deployed from the turbine to Cullivoe Pier.
Leask will also remove the Nova 30 device installed in Bluemull Sound in April 2014 for North Yell Development Company.
The 30kW turbine backed by £168,000 from the Scottish government was intended to supply power for Cullivoe Harbour’s RS Henderson, which operates an ice factory for the fishing industry.
NYDC asked for the turbine to be removed in 2015.
