Siemens to shut Danish blade plant
Factory at Engesvang employes 6500 and will close before July
Siemens Wind Power is to close a turbine blade factory in the Danish town of Engesvang that will result in 430 job losses.
The company said the closure of the small blade plant was necessary because the facility cannot produce larger components, including those needed for offshore wind projects.
The site will be closed by July, it added.
Siemens blamed the “significant” changes that have taken place in the industry since it bought the facility back in 2006.
These include sharply higher demand for bigger blades, more intense global competition and the emergence of new markets, Siemens said.
The wind power unit has more than 6500 employees in Denmark, where it started operating.
