Vattenfall eyes ‘green opportunities’
Combined solar and battery solutions offers potential says CFO
Vattenfall sees “tremendous opportunities” in the global shift towards sustainable energy systems, according to chief financial officer Stefan Dohler.
In an interview on the company’s website, Dohler said Vattenfall “should be decisive but selective, fast and not half-hearted to seize these opportunities”.
He said the company has been successful in wind but has not taken similarly large steps in other areas, such as combined solar and battery solutions or electrification of the heating and industry sectors.
Dohler said the company has the financial strength for growth in new sectors “if we keep focus on performance improvements”.
But, he added, the economic environment for the whole energy industry is still demanding.
“Prices can still deteriorate and it’s too early to say if we have seen the bottom and the related consequences for our asset values. The best way to protect our strong position is to focus on our performance and cost competitiveness,” he said.
