Westar Energy has completed the 280MW Western Plains wind farm in Kansas.

The project, which is located near Spearville in Ford county, features 122 Siemens SWT-2.3-108 turbines.

Westar will own and operate the wind farm, which was developed by Infinity Wind and built by Mortenson Construction.

About 200 temporary jobs were created during construction and 36 permanent positions have been created by the project.

Westar said that about $75m in land lease and local and county government payments will be generated for the local economy over the wind farm's 20-year operational life.
