Construction work will start in May on Xcel Energy’s 600MW Rush Creek wind farm in eastern Colorado.

Xcel has selected contractor Mortenson to build the project, which will feature 300 Vestas V110 2MW turbines and a 134km transmission line near Limon.

Mortenson will deliver full engineering, procurement and construction for the wind farm, creating about 350 jobs during peak building work.

Rush Creek is planned to be operational by October 2018, Xcel said.

The project also has the potential to generate $180m in landowner lease payments and property tax revenue, the company added.

Mortenson wind energy group vice president and general manager Tim Maag said: “We are pleased to be selected to construct this significant project for Xcel Energy and the state of Colorado.”
