Walney 3 substation sets sail
Engie/Iemants contract part of five-project deal with Dong Energy
A 2900 tonne substation set sail on Saturday from the Hoboken yard in Belgium ahead of installation at Dong’s 660MW Walney 3 offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea.
Engie Fabricom and Iemants built the 35-metre tall topside and was accompained by a 48-metre jacket which had been completed earlier this month in Vlissingen, the Netherlands.
The sailaway follows on the heels of a similar milestone for the Race Bank 1 substation, also featuring at a Dong project in the UK. The second Walney 3 substation will follow later this month.
Dong in total awarded contracts to build five substations to the Engie Fabricom/Iemants consortium.
The former is in charge of the entire construction and commissioning on site, while Iemants is responsible for the steel construction work on the five substations and jacket foundations.
Also included in the deal were the Burbo Bank 2 and Race Bank 2 substations, which left the yard last year.
