UK outfit to feel heat in Mexico
Funding secured for solar thermal demo in Latin American country
UK company Larkfleet has secured funding to help test a pre-commercial demonstration project using its solar thermal system at Morelos in Mexico.
The company’s solar steam technology concentrates the power of the sun’s rays to heat water to create steam that can be used in industrial processes.
The funding application was made through the Mexico-UK Collaborative Industrial Research and Development Programme, which is sponsored by the National Science and Technology Council in Mexico, Innovate UK and the Newton Fund.
Larkfleet will develop the pre-commercial demonstrator in collaboration with academic and industrial partners in Mexico and with the support of Queen Mary University of London.
It will contribute £160,000 to the total budget of £800,000 for the project, which is expected to take two years to complete.
Project manager for the solar steam project Simone Perini said: “All the contracts have been completed and signed and work is now beginning”.
