RES Canada has landed a contract to build the 100MW North Kent wind farm in southwest Ontario.

Preliminary foundation work is underway and full construction is slated to kick off this spring.

Project owners Samsung Renewable Energy and Pattern Development expect North Kent to start commercial operation in late 2017 or early 2018.

Siemens will supply a mix of 36 SWT 3.2MW, 2.942MW and 2.772MW turbines with towers and blades manufactured in the province.

The North Kent scheme is the final project in Samsung’s C$5bn Green Energy Investment Agreement with the Ontario government, which includes 1069MW of wind projects and 300MW of solar.
