GE unveils first Merkur nacelle
Unit stored at Saint-Nazaire before load out to Eemshaven operations hub
The first nacelle for a GE 6MW Haliade turbine destined for the 396MW Merkur offshore wind farm in the German North Sea has left the assembly line at the company’s Saint-Nazaire factory in France.
The nacelle will be stored at Saint-Nazaire before being shipped to GE’s logistical operations hub in Eemshaven in the Netherlands, where installation will start in spring 2018.
GE offshore wind business chief executive John Lavelle said: “Merkur is a very important project and a strategic wind farm for us because it allows us to continue our export ramp-up activity in Saint-Nazaire while we keep on moving into new strategic projects.”
Merkur is located approximately 35km north of the island of Borkum.
