Engineering company EC-OG is to carry out sea trials of its Subsea Power Hub (SPH) at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney.

Installation at the Shapinsay Sound test site will take place this month, EC-OG said.

The SPH (pictured) combines a marine energy converter with a lithium-based energy storage system.

The testing aims to validate the hybrid system’s technical capability, the company added.

EC-OG managing director Richard Knox said: “We’re very excited to be testing our Subsea Power Hub at EMEC, and thank their professional team for the guidance and support which has helped us reach our full-scale testing programme ahead of schedule.”
