SSE accepts Stronelairg payout
John Muir Trust pays £50,000 in out of court settlement
SSE has accepted a £50,000 out of court settlement with the John Muir Trust in relation to expenses incurred during the judicial review of the consent decision for 240MW Stronelairg wind farm.
The company described the settlement as an “appropriate and reasonable conclusion to this matter”.
It will give the money to the Visit Inverness Loch Ness not for profit organisation in the Great Glen.
SSE said the funds will be used to contribute towards the south Loch Ness trail, which is a project to complete a walking and cycling trail round the whole of Loch Ness.
In July last year, an Edinburgh court upheld an appeal by the Scottish government and SSE against the outcome of a December 2015 judicial review that had blocked the project.
John Muir Trust had secured the judicial review on the grounds that the required public notices advising the impact of the wind farm on the environment had not been published in line with Environmental Impact Assessment regulations.
However, the court ruled there was nothing to suggest that there “existed further and better points which could have been presented if yet a further notice had been published” regarding the development’s environmental impact.
SSE said construction work is “progressing well” on the project.
