Dong on song at Walney 3
Construction on schedule at 659MW wind farm in Irish Sea
Construction is on schedule at Dong Energy’s 659MW Walney 3 offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea.
The Danish developer said both offshore substations and 40% of the turbine foundations are in place.
MHI Vestas will supply 40 V164 8MW turbines optimised to 8.25MW to the first phase of project, while Siemens will deliver 47 7MW machines for the second phase.
Turbine components and foundations are being stored in Belfast and the construction coordinated from the port of Barrow in Furness.
The wind farm is scheduled to be complete in 2019, Dong said.
Dong Energy Walney 3 programme director Andrew Cotterell said: “We remain on our original construction schedule with both offshore substations in place and 40% of the foundations for wind turbines installed.”
