Three of the five 6MW Siemens turbines have been lifted onto floating foundations for the 30MW Hywind Scotland offshore wind demonstration project.
Crane vessel Saipem 7000 is carrying out the lift work at the port of Stord on the west coast of Norway, developer Statoil said.
The turbines have a height of 175 metres above sea level, with a 78-metre long substructure below the sea surface, the company said.
The turbines will be towed and installed at the project site located 30km off the coast of northeast Scotland and will come online later this year.
Hywind Scotland project director Leif Delp said: “We have never done this kind of wind turbine lifting before, but the lifts and assembly at sea have been successful. The operations have been well prepared and executed.”
Statoil is partnering with Masdar to develop the project.
