An EU-backed research scheme has awarded €1.3m to 34 developers of wave and tidal energy technologies.
The €10.5m programme, known as MaRINET2, is funded by the European Commission's Horizon 2020 initiative and coordinated by the Marine and Renewable Energy Ireland Centre, a collective of universities and industry partners.
Winners will be able to test devices in research facilities and in real sea conditions at 57 sites in the MaRINET2 network.
MaRINET2 co-ordinator Jimmy Murphy said: “In order to bring their product to market, it is essential for technology developers to de-risk their technologies through rigorous and staged testing programmes.
“With today’s announcement, the MaRINET2 project is supporting 34 technology developers to do just that.”
