Eight bid for SaskPower wind
Developers have until 25 May to submit proposals for up 200MW project
SaskPower has chosen eight projects to go forward to the request for proposal stage for a chance to develop up to 200MW of wind power in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan.
The utility said a total of 23 independent power producers had entered the request for qualification stage, with eight going forward to the next step.
The developers will have until 25 May 2018 to submit proposals, with the winner to be announced in the third quarter of that year.
The winning project will be expected to be operating in early 2021, SaskPower said.
SaskPower vice-president of special projects Guy Bruce said: “Wind power will play a key role in Saskatchewan’s electricity future.
“As of today, wind makes up a total of 5% of our available generating capacity. We plan to increase this to 30% by 2030 and this project is one way we will reach our goal.”
