Sandbank sizzles for Vattenfall
Swedish developer to host public BBQ to inaugurate 288MW project
Vattenfall is to inaugurate the 288MW Sandbank wind farm off Germany with a public barbecue in Hamburg.
Electricity generated from the wind farm will fire the grills at the city's Stadtpark park on Sunday to celebrate the project's launch.
“The offshore wind farm is a further proof to our strategy of continuing to push the transformation of Vattenfall’s production portfolio towards renewable energies,” said Vattenfall senior vice president Gunnar Groebler.
“With our wind power barbecue we want to show in which diverse dimension electricity from renewable energy can be used already today,” Groebler added.
Offshore construction at the project, located 90km west of the island of Sylt, began in June 2015.
MPI jack-up Adventure wrapped up installation of the project's 72 Siemens 4MW in January, some three months ahead of schedule.
Vattenfall developed the project in partnership with Stadtwerke Munchen.
