RES sells Texas Cactus
Southern Power acquires 148MW wind farm in Concho County
Southern Company subsidiary Southern Power has acquired the 148MW Cactus Flats wind farm in Texas from RES.
The project, which is located in Concho County, is expected to consist of 43 Vestas turbines, Southern said.
Vestas and Southern will jointly maintain and operate the facility when it becomes operational in the third quarter of 2018.
RES developed the project and will also provide the balance of plant construction.
Electricity and associated renewable energy credits generated by the wind farm will be sold under two separate power purchase agreements to food company General Mills and General Motors.
Southern Power president and chief executive Buzz Miller said: “The Cactus Flats wind facility is an important addition to our growing renewable portfolio and will provide value to our customers through clean, safe, reliable and affordable wholesale energy.”
