Vroon Offshore Services new service operations vessel VOS Start has arrived at the Port of Barrow ahead of providing offshore logistics support during construction of Dong Energy’s 659MW Walney 3 offshore wind farm.

The 80-metre vessel has been chartered by MHI Vestas to provide accommodation, support and walk-to-work services during installation of 40 of its 8MW turbines at the project in the Irish Sea.

VOS Start is Vroon's first subsea support walk-to-work vessel and was named at Damen Shiprepair in Amsterdam on 21 July after completing mobilisation work.

It has been equipped with a Barge Master motion-compensated gangway system and an active heave-compensated crane built by SMST.

ABP port manager north west Carl Bevan said: “We are very proud to have the perfect facilities to accommodate this class of ship and will ensure that our customers have everything they need to make the most of their stay.”
