Nordex joins 4MW class
Prototype light-wind N149 will go up next year, top power of 4.5MW
Nordex has entered the 4MW class with its new N149 turbine rated at up to 4.5MW for light wind sites.
The German manufacturer will present the upgrade of its Delta platform at the Husum Wind conference later this month.
Serial production is planned for 2019 with the initial test turbine to be installed in 2018 for certification.
Nordex said the N149, which will have a 149-metre rotor, will have a maximum output that varies between 4MW and 4.5MW.
This will make it “ideal for adapting to the grid operator’s individual requirements, local wind conditions and noise restraints”, it said.
“The latest turbine showcases another milestone in wind development. It’s a highly competitive product with strong performance and a double-digit increase in efficiency, enabling us to further reduce the cost of energy to our customers”, said chief executive Jose Luis Blanco.
The maximum sound power level of the N149/4.0-4.5 lies between 103.6dB and 106.1dB. It can also operate in a large number of sound-optimising modes.
Towers will be availalbe at 105 to 164 metres. A cold climate version is also available.
