WestWind eyes Oz mega-farm
Plans submitted to Victoria state government for 800MW Golden Plains project
WestWind Energy has submitted a planning application to the state government of Victoria in Australia for the 800MW Golden Plains wind farm, according to local news reports.
The A$1.7bn (€1.1bn) project will consist of up to 235 turbines located in the Barunah Park and Rokewood region of Victoria, about 60km north of Geelong, the reports said.
The project would be the largest wind farm in the Southern Hemisphere, if built, the reports added.
Golden Plains would provide A$3.5m a year for the 39 landowners hosting the turbines and a community fund would also be set up to offer about A$235,000 a year for local projects and initiatives, the reports said.
