Thumbs up for Cape Cod tidal
US Army Corps of Engineers approves test side for MRECo platform
The Marine Renewable Energy Collaborative (MRECo) has received approval from the US Army Corps of Engineers to develop a tidal energy test site in the Cape Cod Canal.
Seaport Economic Council will provide funding for the Bourne tidal test site, which is located outside the canal’s commercial channel, MRECo said.
It added that turbines of up to three metres can be tested at the site, which has water velocity measured at over two metres per second.
MRECo expects to install its platform in November and is accepting proposals for testing in the spring of 2018.
MRECo executive director John Miller said: “We are very pleased the Corps of Engineers has determined that the Bourne tidal test site will have no impact on the critical mission of the Cape Cod Canal and the local environment.”
