Canadian developer Instream Energy Systems and consultancy ITPEnergised have secured UK government backing to build and test a full-scale floating tidal stream demonstration project.
The Instream Tidal Energy Research (InTER) joint project will be co-funded by Innovate UK and supported by a consortium including Tension Technology International, Leask Marine, Plymouth University and A&P Falmouth.
The demonstrator will feature hydrokinetic turbine technology developed by Instream and BAE Systems and it set for deployment and testing in early 2019.
Instream secured a berth at the Morlais demo zone off Angelsey last year.
ITPEnergised project manager Gino Bawn said: “We are excited to be continuing our long-standing relationship with Instream Energy and believe we have an excellent consortium in place to deliver a significant project for the industry.”
