NY seeks room for 3.2GW offshore
Federal officials requested to 'expedite' four new wind zones
New York has requested that federal officials identify four offshore areas each capable of hosting a project of up to 800MW.
The state has filed a so-called area of consideration for the wind farms and asked BOEM to expedite the allocation process via information already gathered.
New York has a 2030 target of 2.4GW of offshore wind which could be facilitated by the new area, which starts some 20 miles from shore.
Federal areas would "jump start" the development of projects, said officials.
Deepwater Wind, which is already developing wind farms to power New York, said the plan positions the state at the leading edge of renewable innovation".
