Germans toast Wattendorf wind
29MW project could be Naturstrom’s last in Bavaria
German developer Naturstrom has commissioned its 29MW Wattendorf wind farm in the North of Bavaria.
The project consists of five GE 2.5-120 turbines each with a 2.5MW capacity and six GE 2.75-120 machines each with output of 2.75MW.
The turbines are designed for low wind sites and have 139-metre hub heights and 120-metre rotor diameters.
Construction of the project started in April 2016.
Naturstrom expects the wind farm to generate some 63m kilowatt hours of electricity a year.
Wattendorf boosts Naturstrom’s wind power portfolio to 57 turbines with a combined capacity of 134MW.
However, the wind farm may be the company’s last in Bavaria said Naturstrom executive Thomas Banning.
He said the state's distance rules have “strangulated almost all possible projects”, while “Germany’s new expansion limits and auction system deal a death blow to such low-wind projects”.
