The export cable for Otary Group’s 309MW Rentel offshore wind farm has made landfall on the Belgian coast.

The 40km cable has been installed in a dredged trench on the seabed and came ashore at Zeebrugge.

The developer said installation of the last 450 metres of cable on the beach will be done by means of mobile cranes.

The cable will connect onshore to the new high voltage Stevin substation at Zeebrugge, it added.

The wind farm will consist of 42 Siemens Gamesa D7 turbines.

The project is expected to start generating electricity from mid-2018.
