ABB shines for Acciona in Chile
El Romero solar plant includes 60 3.6MW PV800-IS inverter stations
ABB has supplied solar inverters to Acciona’s 246MW El Romero photovoltaic plant in the Atacama desert in Chile.
Some 60 ABB 3.6MW PV800-IS inverter stations have been supplied to the project.
ABB said the inverter is a ‘plug-and-play’ solution that allows “easy and rapid” connection to a medium voltage transformer station.
The deal also included 60 ABB 3.6MVA transformers, SafePlus CCV SF6 insulated compact switchgear and the company’s power plant controller system.
ABB product marketing director for solar in Spain Alfredo Diez-Hochleitner said: “The El Romero solar plant was a huge feat of engineering in hostile conditions, that saw ABB work closely with Acciona to install solar solutions that provide 100% of the data center’s clean energy.”
The project is supplying up to 80MW a year of electricity to Google until 2030, with an option for a five-year extension.
