Eon has completed the installation and grid connection of its 10MW energy storage facility at the Blackburn Meadows biomass plant near Sheffield in the UK.
The lithium-ion battery is housed in four shipping containers and has come online three months ahead of schedule, Eon said.
Italian outfit Nidec ASI assisted Eon with the installation of the project, the company added.
The project was one of eight to be awarded a contract by UK transmission system operator National Grid, which will use the batteries to help balance supply and demand.
Eon director of business heat and power solutions David Topping said: “This is a milestone for Eon in the new energy world and an important recognition of the enormous potential for battery solutions in the UK.”
