GE powers Ugandan hydro
Five 50MW Kaplan turbines supplied to 250MW Bujagali project
GE has provided electro-mechanical equipment for the 250MW Bujagali hydro plant in Uganda.
The work involved supply of five 50MW Kaplan turbines, control and protection systems and balance of plant for Italian EPC and civil works contractor Salini Hydro, GE said.
Balance of plant included a 132kV substation to connect a new transmission line for the project to the grid.
GE said the Kaplan turbines feature adjustable blades and wicket gates that allow for efficient output over a “range of heads and discharge”.
