MidAmerican Energy has started construction of the 340MW North English wind farm in Iowa.

The project, which will be located in Poweshiek county, will feature 170 turbines and is the third part of the 2GW Wind XI project.

It is scheduled for completion in December 2018.

The wind farm will share an operations and maintenance building in Montezuma with the 168MW Prairie project, currently under construction in neighbouring Mahaska county.

MidAmerican said it is working with developers, county officials and landowners at potential wind farm sites in other Iowa counties for the balance of the Wind XI project.

Construction on these projects is expected to start in 2018 and 2019.

MidAmerican Energy president and chief executive Bill Fehrman said: “We are excited to continue development of our Wind XI project and come closer to achieving our 100% renewable vision.”
