Enel Generación Chile has won the right to develop renewables projects totalling 242MW in the South American country’s latest auction.

The projects consist of 116MW of solar and 33MW of geothermal capacity in the northern Antofagasta region and 93MW of wind in Chile’s southern Araucanía area.

The tender was launched by the country’s National Energy Commission and aims to help meet energy demand of regulated market customers over the 2024-2043 period.

Enel chief executive and general manager Francesco Starace said: “We are extremely pleased about this new important award for the supply of electricity to Chilean customers.”
