Nexans raises cable test bar
New HV DC laboratory opens at company’s Calais Center of Excellence
French company Nexans has opened a new high voltage DC cable test facility in Calais, France.
The company said the new laboratory allows simultaneous testing of three “independent qualification loops”, which are composed of multiple cable sections and joints that are connected to the electrical network through two terminations.
Nexans said the set up is designed to “represent the various configurations existing in power grids” with generators rated for up to 1.2 million volts.
The new facility brings the total number of test labs to 12 at the company’s Calais Center of Excellence.
Nexans senior executive vice president in the HV and underwater cable business group Dirk Steinbrink said: “With its new laboratory, the Calais Center of Excellence will be positioned as one of the leading hubs for helping our clients address the challenges of the future.”
