Argentina banks bargain wind
Round 2 renewables tender delivers cut-price deals
The lowest bid in Argentina’s latest renewables auction was filed by an unnamed onshore wind farm in the province of Buenos Aires.
The country’s energy department awarded the project support at US$37.30 per megawatt-hour in the so-called RenovAr Program.
Solar also secured support with the lowest winning bid coming in at US$40.44/MWh.
“These are values comparable to the best results obtained in the international market,” the energy department said.
The average price across all technologies was US$47.64, over 30% less than the average in the first auction round.
Winning bids will be awarded on 29 November.
Some 192 project totalling almost 7500MWs have been awarded price support, although it did not say whether this goal was achieved.
The round was targeting up to 1200MW of capacity.
