MHI Vestas Offshore Wind and Esvagt will today officially name the Esvagt Mercator service operations vessel ahead of support work on the 330MW Belwind 1&2  offshore wind farms off the coast of Belgium.

The turbine manufacturer has a 10-year lease agreement for the 58-metre vessel, which will operate out of the port of Oostende.

Mercator will house 36 people for up to two weeks at sea. It is equipped with three safe transfer boats to take personnel to and from the vessel to the turbines.

MHI Vestas chief operations officer Flemming Ougaard said: “With the inauguration of Esvagt Mercator, we are deepening our commitment to the Belgian offshore wind market and our expertise in the operations and maintenance business.”

Esvagt chief commercial officer Søren Karas said: “Esvagt is proud to continue our partnership with MHI Vestas in developing the most efficient and safe solutions in the offshore wind industry.”
