16-year fight to build 130 turbines off Massachusetts comes to end

Development company Cape Wind has called time on its 130-turbine offshore wind farm on Horseshoe Shoal off Massachusetts.
The EMI business this week informed federal officials that it was handing back its federal lease and ceasing work on the project off Nantucket.

The project has been under development for 16 years and at one point secured a federal lease, full permits and a power purchase deal.
Progress towards construction that was originally scheduled as early as 2010 was repeatedly delayed by legal challenges.
