Siemens boosts UK-France link
Four new transformers to help upgrade 2GW cross-channel connection
Siemens is to deliver four transformers to National Grid to help upgrade the 2GW HVDC cross-channel link between the UK and France.
The 400kV and 315 megavolt ampere transformers are quieter, have lower transmission losses and will improve the system's reliability, Siemens said.
The order includes the supply, installation and commissioning of the transformers for the Sellindge converter station in England. Siemens will complete the work by mid-2019.
All four transformers are being manufactured in Siemens’ Nuremberg factory.
Siemens Transformers Business Unit chief executive Beatrix Natter said: “These new HVDC transformers will enable our customer to raise its system to a new level of energy efficiency and reliability.”
