Dutch outfit Jumbo has signed a letter of intent with China Merchants Industry Holdings for construction of a new DP2 heavy lift crane vessel for use in offshore energy markets, including renewables.

Delivery of the vessel, which has been designed by Ulstein Design and Solutions, is expected in the first quarter of 2020.

The vessel will have dual-fuel engines that will allow it to run on LNG.

It will be fitted with two Huisman mast cranes with lifting capacity of 2200 and 400 tonnes, respectively.

The 185-metre long vessel will also have an X-bow to provide “more consistent transit speed and offshore workability in severe weather conditions”, Jumbo said.
