Fugro, Cowi map India offshore
MV Kamrup vessel to carry out geophysical surveys off Gujarat coast
Fugro Survey India and Danish consultancy Cowi are to carry out a geophysical survey off the coast of Gujarat at the site of a proposed 200MW offshore wind farm demonstration project.
The vessel MV Kamrup (pictured) will undertake the work, which will take place in the “coming weeks” near the port of Pipavav Bandar, Cowi said.
The survey is being funded by the EU and the results will be delivered to India’s National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE).
Two NIWE staff will also participate in the survey campaign, which will provide data on sea depth, soil, sea bed surface and objects found in the soil.
Cowi is also preparing technical project documents covering wind measurement at the site and has already produced metocean and grid connection studies.
NIWE is the agency tasked by India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to prepare a contract with the developer for the project, Cowi said.
Cowi project director Per Vølund said the wind farm is planned to be in operation by 2021.
“It will be a first step on India's way into auctions for substantial offshore wind capacity,” he said.
